PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS / CARERS

At Cottingham we realise the importance of forging a strong three way link between home, school and the child. By working together we can achieve so much. The staff and the governors are here to help, no matter how small the problem may seem. We want to share your child’s successes with you. Below you will find information about the ways we develop links between home and school.

Termly Parents Evenings

These take place twice a year. One in the Autumn term and one in the Spring Term.

Discussions with Staff

Either informally at the end of the day or an appointment can be made.

Termly Reports

Each term your child will receive a report which outlines their progress and targets for the following term. This report is discussed at Parents Evening before being sent home.

We Keep You in Touch

Through our newsletters, the Curriculum News and our termly planner we inform you of what your child will be doing in the coming weeks.

Open Afternoons

Over the year we have a number of Open Afternoons covering a range of themes. These give you an opportunity to spend time in the classroom with your children and chat informally with the teachers.

Collective Worship

Join us on the last afternoon of each term for a Church Service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Cottingham. We also hold a number of other class assemblies during the year, including the Year 6 Leaver’s Assembly to which we invite parents.

Parent Forum

We have a Parent Forum which meets once a term. The aim of the group is to provide you with an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas about ways to move the school forward. It also provides you with an opportunity to raise any concerns or queries you may have related to school issues.

PTFA

Your Parent Teacher Friends Association raises money for school by holding events such as discos, the’ Annual Camp Out’ and a range of other fun activities. All parents are welcome.

Parent Governors

We have 3 parent governors who are keen to develop our school. They are there to provide, amongst other things, a listening ear for parents and represent your views.

Helping Out

We are always delighted to welcome parents/carers and grandparents into the school to help with a variety of activities including; swimming,  cooking, reading, developing classroom activities, helping with school productions, clubs and visits.  We really like to see our parents involved in the work of our school.

EXTENDED DAYCARE

At Cottingham School we offer extremely reasonable before and after school care for all of our pupils. These clubs are perfect for parents needing child care before and after school and the rates that we offer are extremely competitive in comparison to other child care.

Extended Services

Breakfast Club

We offer Breakfast Club from 7.45 -8.45 each morning. This is a very successful provision and is excellent value for money. Children are provided with a breakfast and there are games and activities on.

After School Care

We offer a range of after school clubs from 3.30-4.30 each day at a cost of between £1.00 and £2.00. Clubs include a range of sports clubs as well as cookery, music, dance, computing and circus skills.

For those children who just want to relax there is Chillax Club where they can meet with friends and ‘chill out’ playing cards, games etc. The cost of this club is only £2.00 and refreshments are provided. This facility can be booked on a daily basis if necessary.

Tea Time Club

We also offer a Tea Time Club which runs from 4.30pm – 5.30pm each day where we serve a light snack and giving children time to relax at the end of the day. The cost for this club is £3.50 per session. Once again children can book on a daily basis if required.
